Joshua Radin enjoyed a major breakthrough with 2010’s hit album ‘Simple Times’. Radin returns to release his new album ‘The Rock and The Tide’ on Friday July 29th 2011. The album is to be preceded by the release of the single ‘I Missed You’ on July 22nd 2011.
Produced by Martin Terefe (James Morrison, KT Tunstall) and mixed by Mark Endert (Maroon 5, Rihanna), ‘The Rock and The Tide’ sees Radin embracing a new range of often upbeat songs with richer, more dynamic productions. As he explains, “It’s a much bigger record, with a full band recorded live. It’s a lot more rock ‘n’ roll. The first two records were really mellow, sparse and intimate. I wanted to try something new.”
Opening with the breezy melodic pop of ‘Road To Ride On’, the album’s fresh approach includes the countrified upbeat soul of ‘Streetlight’ and the stomping, elastic bass that underpins ‘The Ones With The Light’. It also visits the laidback confessionals that typified the best of ‘Simple Times’, most notably with ‘You Got What I Need.’ The summery upbeat love song ‘I Missed You’ will precede the album when it’s released on Friday July 22nd.
“I write when inspiration strikes me and you never know when that’s going to happen,” says Radin of his songwriting process. “I’ll be laying in bed when some melody will be going through my head, and I’ll have to take out my phone to sing and record it. The next day I’ll pick up my guitar, put my headphones or walk around the city to try to get inspired by something that I want to write about, or a story that I want to tell about myself. I never have a better feeling than when I finish a song.”
Since the Stateside release of ‘The Rock and The Tide’, Radin has toured in the States, Canada and Australia. He also visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show on the presenter’s birthday to perform ‘Today’ – the same song that he performed at her wedding in 2008.
