Suffolk born but Irish bred, Ed Sheeran’s career kicked off here following a chance meeting in Whelan’s with Damien Rice at the tender age of 11. Having found his calling Ed went home and started writing songs, aged 16, he moved to London with only one thing on his mind: playing gigs, as many as he could and as often as he could. Signed last year to Atlantic Records, Ed released the stunning debut single ‘The A Team’ to massive critical acclaim spawning top ten placements in the UK and Ireland. The video has amassed 5 million views on Youtube and is pulling in 100,000 views a day.

With an Irish mother and a three quarters Irish father Ed was originally told he needed to conform to succeed by dying his trademark Irish red hair and ditching his unique loop-pedal & rapped delivery, Ed responded by writing the now cult hit and forthcoming second single ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’. Then, in February 2010, after two years of constant gigging and sofa surfing, Ed filmed a live version of the song for leading youth broadcaster SB:TV. The clip got 100K hits in two days on YouTube and is quickly approaching 3 Million views.  “I was told by countless people that it wouldn’t get anywhere and that I should stop playing it, so to actually have it as my second single is flippin’ wicked” says Ed.

The pioneering video to ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’, is directed by critically acclaimed British director Emil Nava (Jessie J, Devlin) and stars 17 year-old Matthew Morgan in an arresting sign language performance of the song, interspersed with cutting edge dance, graphics and performance shots.

Ed has been a highlight of the summer’s top festivals including no less than 8 performances at Glastonbury plus mainstage slots at Lovebox and Latitude. He is a bold and engaging performer and his energetic shows are a must-see. November 4th will see him take to the stage at Vicar Street. With his highly anticipated debut album ‘+’ set for release on Friday September 9th 2011, Ed is sure to be one of this year’s biggest success stories.
