This Machine is The Dandy Warhols 8th official studio album. There’s some argument around that it’s actually album number 10; which takes into consideration a shelved by the label first attempt early in their career, and then the alternate version of Welcome To The Monkeyhouse / Are Sound. It’s 8, or 10; you make the call.
This Machine was recorded over the course of 2011 at The Dandy Warhols epic rock clubhouse-cum-entertainment megaplex/studio The Odditorium. The Dandy Warhols recorded the album with longtime engineer and sometimes producer Jeremy Sherrer.
This Machine was mixed Tchad Blake in the UK. Tchad Blake mixed The Dandy Warhols Odditorium or Warlords of Mars and is well known for his recent work with The Black Keys.
The album cover for This Machine was painted by a local Portland, Oregon painter-Hickory Mertsching. Steve Berlin of Los Lobos performed Saxophone on the track 16 tons; the only non Dandy Warhols authored track on the album.
One of many stand out tracks, Autumn Carnival was co-authored by Courtney Taylor and David J of Love and Rockets.
Courtney is writing songs with his some times songwriter pal Miles Zuniga of Fastball fame. Miles and Courtney co-wrote Rest Your Head and SETI vs The Wow Signal for This Machine and collaborated previously on Odditorium’s Smoke It and All The Money of The Simple Life Honey. They’ll likely celebrate with a bottle of Bordeaux at some point. When he’s not writing songs, Courtney is currently promoting his graphic novel One Model Nation out now worldwide through Titan books. There’s a complimentary CD in stores as well, released by The End records.Pete just got back from and adventure in Central America. He’s in his basement now making new sounds for The Dandy Warhols and his solo stuff, Pete International Airport. Brent is in Australia raising a family and playing guitar/singing in his side project Immigrant Union. They just opened for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Zia is on a 10 day sabbatical where she’s not allowed to talk. She’s also got a band of here own now, Brush Prairie.
