UTV launch new initiative to put Irish music at the forefront on radio stations nationwide!

Music Scene is delighted to reveal that UTV Radio has come up with a brand new initiative which will put new Irish music back on the map. Entitled ‘Select Irish’, the move will see all UTV radio stations select one new Irish song per month and give it significant airplay across their schedules. In Dublin, airplay will be on either FM104 or Q102, in Cork, airplay will be on 96FM or C103, in Limerick, airplay will be on Limerick’s Live 95FM and on LMFM in Louth & Meath. The combined weekly reach of the stations is an astonishing 972,000 listeners nationwide.

The Shoos ‘Say Something’ is the first track to be represented nationwide as part of Select Irish.

Speaking about the new initiative, Tex, lead singer of The Shoos stated: “We’re delighted to have been chosen by UTV and this is exactly what Irish bands and the Irish music industry desperately needs, especially now, it’s fantastic that a group such as UTV have recognised this. UTV and particularly Dave Kelly in FM104 have always been supportive of what we do, which we really appreciate, and we look forward to getting move involved with this great initiative.”

Dave Kelly, Group Programme Director (Dublin Operations) commented: “Airplay will be decided by all four station’s Programme Directors. This is a really exciting time for us as Irish Music is a very important part of our output and essential for our listeners across the country.”
