Ashley Balbirnie, Chief Executive, ISPCC stated: “We are hugely grateful for the support of Emeli Sande, putting on this performance in aid of Childline. ISPCC’s Childline service is an essential support to young people in Ireland and last year we received over 800,000 calls. Sadly, due to lack of funding and resources, we were unable to answer over a third of these calls, meaning hundreds of children’s voices went unheard everyday; a very worrying statistic. The proceeds which we hope will be raised from Emeli’s gig will make a huge difference to Childline as we endeavour to listen to every child who bravely reaches out for support.”
2012 is proving to be an incredible year for Emeli Sandé. Confirmed as the winner of the prestigious Brits Critic’s Choice Award, the Aberdonian singer –songwriter released the stunning single, ‘Next To Me’, from her hugely anticipated debut album ‘Our Version of Events’ in February 2012.
“Our Version Of Events” is warm, wise, frank, funny, thoughtful and as inimitable as Emeli Sande’s vertical shock of blond hair and the Frida Kahlo tattoo that takes up most of her right arm. Reflecting the fears, thoughts, heartbreak and hopes of a young women, the record effortlessly appeals to anyone with a love of imagery, imagination and, ultimately, bloody great songs. The album is written entirely by Emeli Sande and produced by her creative partner Shahid ‘Naughty Boy’ Khan.
Childline is a unique 24 hour freephone listening service for young people all over Ireland. It is confidential and non-judgemental so children can talk about anything at all. Childline receives absolutely no government funding and so relies solely on the generosity of public giving.
