Sepultura are a phenomenon. For over twenty five years, the band from Brazil has been delivering a brutal mix of metal, hardcore, thrash, punk and tribal that could hardly be more intense or more passionate. What had begun in Belo Horizonte in 1984 soon turned into a metal hurricane of threatening proportions and has taken on undreamt-of dimensions since the enlistment of American vocalist Derrick Green in 1998. You have to experience this band live on stage to understand the fascination that this South-American act holds. And Sepultura’s current songs always indicate the future of heavy metal.
Sepultura released their 12th studio album Kairos in June 2011 and have been on the road ever since. Sepultura will be performing material from their latest LP at their Dublin show, aswell as various tracks from their illustrious career. Expect a loud one!
Speaking about the concept behind their 12th studio album Kairos – Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser stated:
“The whole theme of the album is the concept of the time, and the title reflects that — it’s like one concept of time which is not chronological, from one to two; it’s like a an instant in time, it’s a special time of change… Everyone’s life is written by their choices — you have many ‘Kairos’ moments, like if you go from point A to point B to point C, you are driven by your choices or your guidance; you have to go either one way or the other. And that’s the kind of time we talked about — not about aging or getting old or going back in time; it’s just about those important moments that can change everything.”
Here’s a quote from a recent review of a Sepultura show in the US during May 2012:
Sepultura have a very unique blend of fans. South American metalheads hold the Brazilian band in the highest regard and thusly fill venues to see the band all around the U.S. The place exploded once Sepultura hit the stage, with the band playing a ton of tracks encompassing nearly their entire career. The band launched out gems such as ‘Refuse/Resist,’ ‘Roots Bloody Roots’ and a collection of new tracks from ‘Kairos,’ and showed New York why they’re one of thrash’s most celebrated bands.
