Review of ‘Runaways’ by The Killers – Keelan Foley
After a four year musical sabbatical The Killers are back with brand new single ‘Runaways’. It is the debut single off their forthcoming studio album Battle Born, due for release this September. ‘Runaways’ brings forth a much heralded move away from the Pet Shop Boy’s inspired pop music of old that dominated the Day & Age album. If the new single is anything to go by then The Vegas rockers are set to return to the good ole days of Mr. Brightside and Co. The track itself is an atmospheric ballad. The music is stripped back and simplistic providing the perfect spotlight for Flowers’ immense vocal talent. The song-writing is possibly the best it’s ever been with inspired and evoking lyrics. The Killers sure do know how to make an entrance, or re-entrance for that matter. Runaways may very well be one of the finest tracks to come from The Killers. Only time will tell if the album can live up to the hype. Roll on September.
