It looks like Meteor have done it again! In 2012, Meteor’s official sponsorship of the Choice Music Prize Awards gave way to a brand new award entitled ‘Irish Song Of The Year’ which was awarded to one lucky Irish act (Royseven, ‘We Should Be Lovers’). This year the 10 judges and the airplay charts of Irish music have been combined to produce a new shortlist which sees a whole bunch of great Irish artists in the running for this prestigious prize!

Like X Factor (erm… did we just say that?…), Music Scene is delighted to reveal that you people of the public will decide the winner of Meteor Choice Music Prize ‘Irish Song Of The Year’ by voting online via clicking here, or by texting the word SONG to 0857114444 for a list of nominees and instructions. All the people who make a vote are in with a chance to win one of 20 pairs of tickets to the actual Meteor Choice Music Prize live event on March 7th 2013, which takes place in Vicar Street in Dublin. Voting will close on March 3rd 2013.

The winning entry will be announced at the live event in Vicar Street Dublin and will be awarded the Meteor Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year trophy, along with a hefty prize fund of €3,000 (Not that The Script will need this of course – sure they’ll have that kind cash in their wallets on the night anyhow!).

The nominees for the Meteor Choice Music Prize ‘Irish Song Of The Year’ are as follows:

The Coronas – Mark My Words
Delorentos – Care For
Glen Hansard – High Hopes
Heathers – Forget Me Knots
Gavin James – Say Hello
Kodaline – All I Want
Le Galaxie ft. Elaine Mai – Love System
The Script – Hall Of Fame
