Chop Chop is the sixth studio offering from Bell X1, the sixth instalment in the life of a band who, if you are a long time fan, you may feel you have watched grow up. If you listen back to earlier records and on through to today, you can get a real feeling for the band developing both musically and personally. Although always a little bittersweet, the recession seems to have taken its toll on the band, as with the rest of the country, and like 2011’s Bloodless Coup, Chop Chop gives an older, more embittered look at life, addressing darker frustrations and issues.
Though there are not as many direct political references as Bloodless Coup, Paul Noonan & Co. still gets their digs in about the economy and western civilisation in tracks such as “A Thousand Little Downers” and “I Will Follow You”…
