Lead vocalist Johnathan Higgs believes ‘A Fever Dream‘ contains the “most intense” songs the band have ever written, it also holds moments of great tenderness – the piano-led New Deep for example. “We purposely set out not to have any downtime on the last record, and I think we decided to have some calm on this one,” he explains. “Just because we’re humans and the world is in such turmoil, we needed those moments of introspection.” Robertshaw agrees: “All our records are trying to cover as much ground as possible for our own excitement really,” he says. “We like to have heart-wrenching moments next to complete rage.”

‘A Fever Dream‘ is a rare and quite remarkable achievement: an album that is charged and political, that takes the temperature of the times, that will surely stand as one of the year’s most important albums, yet on a most visceral level is arresting, beautiful, tender, and thoroughly, irresistibly danceable. Rat Boy is the project of Essex boy Jordan Cardy. After a few unsuccessful attempts at putting a pop-punk band together in his hometown of Chelmsford, Cardy turned himself into a one-man band, recording a shambling 23-minute mixtape that blended punk guitars and noisy samples with hip-hop, reggae, and plenty of cheeky attitude. Taking inspiration from artists like Jamie T, Blur, and the Streets, whose landmark 2002 debut, Original Pirate Material, was a favorite in the Cardy household, the young artist branded himself Rat Boy after his unflattering schoolyard nickname and, within a year of releasing ‘The MixTape‘, he had signed on with Parlophone.

His first single for the label, ‘Sign On‘, arrived in the summer of 2015. Buzz grew quickly, and by early 2016 Rat Boy had not only found himself on the BBC’s Sound of 2016 longlist and MTV’s Brand New for 2016 shortlist, but he’d also notched a Best New Artist award from NME. Coinciding with these accolades was the release of his second Parlophone single, ‘Move‘. Several more singles and the Get Over It EP followed that year, before Rat Boy‘s debut album, ‘Scum‘, dropped in mid-2017. Following the adventures of the titular character, it presenting a skewed, satirical, hyper-real version of working-class life in contemporary Britain, while its somewhat more polished, less guitar-driven sound boasted the distinct influence of ’90s big beat.

Born in Nigeria, Jacob Banks moved to Birmingham in England at the age of 13. Not short of talent, the Brit dabbled in all forms of the creative arts and began singing, playing guitar, and writing songs at the age of 20.

Robert Plant’s new album, ‘Carry Fire’, will be released October 13th on Nonesuch/Warner Bros. Records. ‘Carry Fire’, his eleventh solo album and first full-length release since 2014’s acclaimed ‘lullaby and…The Ceaseless Roar’, was produced by Robert at Top Cat studio in Box, Wiltshire with additional recordings at Real World and Rockfield studios.

Robert Plant states: “It’s about intention, I respect and relish my past works but each time I feel the lure and incentive to create new work. I must mix old with new. Consequently, the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis somewhat, the new sound and different space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation”.

BNQT, a new indie super-group conceived and led by Eric Pulido of Midlake, released their debut album ‘Volume 1‘ in April 2017 via Bella Union. The introductory set includes ten new, original songs and features five vocalists – Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Fran Healy of Travis, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, and Pulido – who wrote and all sing two tracks each, with backing from other Midlake members; McKenzie Smith (drums), Joey McClellan (guitar) and Jesse Chandler (keys). ‘Volume 1‘ was recorded and produced mostly at their studio in Denton, Texas. The band have shared the album’s opening track ‘Restart‘ which you can listen to below…

The concept of BNQT (pronounced “Banquet”) came to Pulido while touring Midlake’s 2013 release, ‘Antiphon‘. Gathering a number of contrasting yet complementary artists he’d befriended or shared the stage with, Pulido set out to establish an environment in which they could collaborate: “That’s what art is about for me,” Pulido says, “creating with other people that you love and appreciate.”

The idea for BNQT was enthusiastically embraced by all involved, but with the artists stretched across the globe, recordings were split both with travel to Denton and remotely over the net. Over a year and some change, songs grew from demos to fully realized recordings, with Pulido guiding the way, and encouraging the artists to stretch out into new, uncharted territory. The resulting work is full of surprises, a collection that feels oddly familiar and attractively alien.
