Taking a leaf from his ‘Don’t Believe The Truth‘ offering whereby ‘Meaning Of Soul‘ became an almost stand out track from that 2005 release, production duties definitely honed in on that particular vibe, obviously not going as far as Zac Starkey using a cereal box as his snare drum – but Greg Kurstin and Dan Grech-Marguerat have achieved a very raw acoustic-rock feel on ‘As You Were‘, reminiscent of the Rolling Stones and Primal Scream at their finest. If any of the first 5 and very much varied tracks don’t tickle your fancy in one way or another, probably best you jog on. With the likes of the eerie ‘Bold‘ and aggressive ‘Greedy Soul‘ being followed by lo-fi Beatles-esque wonder ‘Paper Crown‘ and the Oasis-esque ‘For What It’s Worth‘, it’s clear that Liam Gallagher was… and probably still is, the voice of a generation at the ripe old age of 45, following this welcomed addition to his unrivalled catalogue of snarl.

Reaching an almighty bar brawl type crescendo come track #7 and #8, with immediate body shots directed at his brother Noel, ‘You better Run‘ and ‘I Get By‘ are the biggest sounding tracks of the album, immediately followed by the beautiful ‘Chinatown’ which has a double layered vocal to die for. ‘Universal Gleam‘ and ‘All I Need‘ also close the album nicely and with no 5 minute outro required. However, the weakest link on the album (in my opinion) is ‘Come Back To Me‘ which should have been replaced by bonus track ‘All My People / All Mankind‘ boasting the lyric “Stand down… and less of the cheese, selfies… what a f*cking disease” which is clearly a Liam dig at today’s musical generation. At least we have Spotify these days to help us make a little tracklist amend though.

Putting things into perspective for Gallagher junior; the release of ‘Supersonic‘ (the movie) and four years hibernation following the demise of his beloved Beady Eye, it really does seem that all the salmon and jogging has paid off and really cleared the head – firmly putting him back at the forefront of his own mind, which is what got him to where he was in the first place, back in the early 90′s.

Lead vocalist Johnathan Higgs believes ‘A Fever Dream‘ contains the “most intense” songs the band have ever written, it also holds moments of great tenderness – the piano-led New Deep for example. “We purposely set out not to have any downtime on the last record, and I think we decided to have some calm on this one,” he explains. “Just because we’re humans and the world is in such turmoil, we needed those moments of introspection.” Robertshaw agrees: “All our records are trying to cover as much ground as possible for our own excitement really,” he says. “We like to have heart-wrenching moments next to complete rage.”

‘A Fever Dream‘ is a rare and quite remarkable achievement: an album that is charged and political, that takes the temperature of the times, that will surely stand as one of the year’s most important albums, yet on a most visceral level is arresting, beautiful, tender, and thoroughly, irresistibly danceable. It is that exceptional kind of record that demands cerebral, emotional and physical response — as Higgs says: “You shouldn’t be sitting down the first time you hear it.”

Speaking about their forthcoming return to Belfast, Joe Walsh stated: “when we confirmed that the Italian tour was happening we knew we would have to get across the ditch to Belfast. The Crossfire Hurricanes are one of our favourite bands so to be able to put this show together with them is extra sweet! It’s gonna be a party!”

“One night I was lying out looking up at stars,” Grohl recalls. “Just imagining all of these stars as places that have life on them as well, and I decided that the sky is a neighborhood, that we need to keep our shit together in order to survive in this universe full of life. But I had no music yet. I just had the title. So everyday I would walk around, kind of humming this thing in my head.”

Rat Boy is the project of Essex boy Jordan Cardy. After a few unsuccessful attempts at putting a pop-punk band together in his hometown of Chelmsford, Cardy turned himself into a one-man band, recording a shambling 23-minute mixtape that blended punk guitars and noisy samples with hip-hop, reggae, and plenty of cheeky attitude. Taking inspiration from artists like Jamie T, Blur, and the Streets, whose landmark 2002 debut, Original Pirate Material, was a favorite in the Cardy household, the young artist branded himself Rat Boy after his unflattering schoolyard nickname and, within a year of releasing ‘The MixTape‘, he had signed on with Parlophone.

His first single for the label, ‘Sign On‘, arrived in the summer of 2015. Buzz grew quickly, and by early 2016 Rat Boy had not only found himself on the BBC’s Sound of 2016 longlist and MTV’s Brand New for 2016 shortlist, but he’d also notched a Best New Artist award from NME. Coinciding with these accolades was the release of his second Parlophone single, ‘Move‘. Several more singles and the Get Over It EP followed that year, before Rat Boy‘s debut album, ‘Scum‘, dropped in mid-2017. Following the adventures of the titular character, it presenting a skewed, satirical, hyper-real version of working-class life in contemporary Britain, while its somewhat more polished, less guitar-driven sound boasted the distinct influence of ’90s big beat.

Born in Nigeria, Jacob Banks moved to Birmingham in England at the age of 13. Not short of talent, the Brit dabbled in all forms of the creative arts and began singing, playing guitar, and writing songs at the age of 20.

‘The Boy Who Cried Freedom‘, which received wide critical acclaim, includes powerful singles like ‘Unholy War,’ and smash hit, ‘Chainsmoking,’ which TIME Magazine listed as one of the best songs of 2017 so far. Nylon Magazine raved that the project “gives equal shine to Banks” voice and songwriting skills, highlighting his mastery of metaphors and imagery akin to that of a verified, contemporary poet.”

Now, at work on his Interscope Records debut album, Jacob Banks hopes to reenergize a genre-blending brand of music for a new generation hoping to be their solace in hard times and a battery pack on a slow Monday morning.
